Stem Cells: Neurodegenerative Disease Cure
نویسندگان
چکیده
Stem cells are cells that have not yet differentiated to perform a certain task. Scientists and engineers can manipulate them to differentiate into a certain cell. This is advantageous for the scientific community because scientists, engineers, and doctors can use stem cells for their own reasons. They can be used to cure diseases or for research. Stem cells are a great way to cure certain diseases because they replace dead/dying cells. They are great for curing diseases such as Alzheimer disease, Huntington disease, Parkinson disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and spinal muscular atrophy. Stem cells replace the dead/dying cells with new ones, allowing lost functions to be regained. Stem cell research needs to be pushed to its limits because there is a huge potential for them to cure diseases and to allow scientists, doctors, and engineers to study diseases in a safe environment.

Neurodegenerative diseases are the hereditary and sporadic diseases which are characterized by progressive neuronal loss of the nervous system and are emerging as the leading cause of death, disabilities, and a socioeconomic burden due to an increase in life expectancy. There are many neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, disease, amyotrophic lateral...
متن کاملP137: Stem Cell Therapy in Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder which plays an important role in neural cell destruction and as a result it causes memory loss in the patients. This disease is also the most common type of dementia which doesn’t completely respond to medical treatments so no certain cure is available. Recent studies show the advantages of using stem cells (SCs) in ...

Introduction: As an inherited neurodegenerative disease, Huntington's disease is accompanied with wide neuronal degeneration in neostriatum and neocortex. Progress of the disease causes disabling clinical effects on movements, recognition and physiology of the body, and finally results in death. At this stage of knowledge we are, there is no effective therapeutic strategy for diminishing the mo...

Neurodegenerative diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), Huntington’s disease (HD), and multiple sclerosis (MS), are characterized by progressive degeneration of particular neuronal cells. Neurodegenerative disorders are believed to share a common pathophysiologic mechanism that allows the depo...
متن کاملAmyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis - Cell Based Therapy and Novel Therapeutic Development
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease, characterized by the predominant loss of motor neurons (MNs) in primary motor cortex, the brainstem, and the spinal cord, causing premature death in most cases. Minimal delay of pathological development by available medicine has prompted the search for novel therapeutic treatments to cure ALS. Cell-based therapy has been propos...
